Self-sufficient Tam Dao travel experience for newbies

Where is Tam Dao?

Tam Dao is a district in Vinh Phuc province. Tam Dao to the southeast borders Tam Duong district, the southwest borders Tam Duong district, the west borders Lap Thach district, the northwest borders Son Duong district (Tuyen Quang), and the north borders Dai Tu district (Tuyen Quang). Tam Dao is 60km from Hanoi capital and about 40 km from Noi Bai airport.

In Tam Dao, ethnic minorities account for 44.5% of the population. Tam Dao has a rich terrain and many landscapes, such as primeval forests, waterfalls, caves, high mountains, etc., that are very suitable for tourism development.

Which season and month are the most beautiful to travel to Tam Dao?

Tam Dao is a land covered entirely by mountains and forests. The air is always cool all year round, and the average temperature is between 18°C - 25°C. You can come here all year round.

But if you want to avoid the hot summer heat, the summer from June to September is the ideal time for you to come to Tam Dao. The weather in Tam Dao also experiences four different seasons with distinct temperature and weather amplitudes, creating a special highlight for this place.

How to get to Tam Dao

Motorbike

If traveling by motorbike from Hanoi to Tam Dao, you can refer to this route:

  • From the center of the capital, you take Pham Van Dong Street and go straight to Thang Long Bridge. If you ride a motorcycle, you need to go on the lower level of the bridge to avoid violating the law.
  • After passing the bridge, you go straight towards the Noi Bai Expressway. At the ticket checkpoint near the airport, you turn left onto National Highway 2 (heading to Vinh Yen).
  • Continue another 20 km, and you will reach the end of Vinh Yen city, then turn right and go to National Highway 2B. At the end of National Highway 2B, you will reach Tam Dao.

Train

You can travel to Tam Dao by train. Train tickets from Hanoi to Vinh Yen are 70,000 VND per ticket for air-conditioned soft seats. By train, it will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to Vinh Yen.

Rent a motorcycle

You can choose to rent a motorbike to get around here. Because motorbikes are more suitable for the narrow roads here, riding a motorbike is always a reasonable choice for those who want to experience it for themselves. Taking a taxi

The second option is to travel by taxi. If you travel in large numbers and want to visit places at the foot of the mountain, this means of transport is quite suitable. However, taxi prices are very high, even for very short distances. You should only use taxis when traveling in a large group (for example, about 6-7 people, enough to sit in a 7-seat car) more reasonable.

Traveling by motorbike taxi: In contrast to taxis, motorbike taxis are suitable for you to travel as a single individual to move between points. However, you also need to negotiate the price carefully to avoid being overcharged or arguing after using the service.
